She graduated from Denver North High School in 1945, and graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1950, with a degree in English and History. Virginia taught high school English and History at Denver West High School.
Virginia belonged to the Calico and Boots Square Dance Club. In 1952, Virginia and Wilber Scoville met during a square dance at Greeley and married in Denver in 1953. They lived in Camp Breckenridge KY, Bridgeport NE, Denver CO, and Minot ND before moving to Oshkosh WI in 1962.
