He attended Little Rock Central High School and received his Civil Engineering degree from the University of Arkansas.
Immediately after graduation, he joined the firm of Howard, Needles, Tammen & Bergendorf, headquartered in Kansas City, MO. Licensed to practice engineering in eight states, his sixty years of contribution to the engineering field included partnership in Boyd, Brown, Stude and Cambern as well as positions with Transystems Engineers & Planners, HCL Engineering & Surveying, and proprietorship of EVO Consulting Services in Englewood, CO.
He served in the Arkansas National Guard, was a Shepard Deacon at Village Presbyterian Church, was past President of Professional Engineers of Colorado, and held membership in Consulting Engineers Council of Colorado and the American Society of Civil Engineers.
Ken was best known for his wonderful sense of humor, knowledge and integrity. He had a unique ability to make friendships, many of which lasted through the years. He was a dedicated mentor who inspired everyone around him. Running, skiing and cycling in his earlier days gave way to hiking, gardening, fixing and building. He always had a project and loved anything he and master gardener wife Nancy would grow. He throughly enjoyed his neighbors, his colleagues, escapes to the mountain cabin, and most of all his canine companions, Darwin and Carson.
He was predeceased by his parents, John George and Margaret Brown, four sisters, seven brothers, and daughter Catherine Parrish Costa.
Forever cherishing Ken’s memory are his beloved wife Nancy (Metz Sublette) of the home, devoted sister Lillian Vail of Hot Springs, AR, daughters Selena Parrish of Eureka Springs, AR, Beckon Brown (Scott Benedict) of Lee’s Summit, MO, and granddaughter Samantha Brown-Benedict of San Diego, CA. He will be equally missed by stepchildren Kendra Lema of Katy, TX, Darel Sublette (Renee) of Broomfield, CO, Jonathan Sublette (Kari) of Honolulu, HI, and stepgrandchildren Soraya and Apollo Lema; Chase, Jacob and Ryan Sublette; many treasured nephews, nieces and cousins, and a lifetime of loving friends near and far.
There will be a “Gathering of Friends” Memorial Service at 2pm Saturday, May 21st, Hope United Methodist Church, 5101 S. Dayton St., Greenwood Village, CO 80111. All are welcome.
